What is Way2Go?

Way2Go is the Nelson Tasman Active Communities project with the aim being to increase the physical activity levels of the community - with a focus on those who are aware they should be active but currently are not. These are termed Support Seekers and Others Oriented.
Way2Go has working partners who have formed a Steering Group to manage and guide the project.
These partners consist of:
- Sport & Recreation New Zealand (SPARC)
- Tasman District Council (TDC)
- Nelson City Council (NCC)
- Tasman Regional Sports Trust (Sport Tasman)
- Nelson Bays Primary Health (PHO)
- Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (DHB)
Way2Go Key Objectives
- Ensure the community is well-informed of physical activity options and benefits
- Introduce multiple strategies via regional community “Hubs”
- “Think regionally – act locally”
- Remove barriers to participation - making the active choice an easy choice

August Coordinators Gathering
Dates are Thursday 13th/Friday 14th and the venue is Kimi Ora Health Spa at Kaiteriteri. While the venue might suggest that a relaxing comfortable time is to be had by all we are going to make use of the time together to cement the second phase of the Way2Go programme and begin to enable Hub’s to move towards a more sustainable model.
A volunteer training package is in the process of being established which will support Hub’s to identify, train and manage the use of volunteers and enable the Way2Go programme to thrive and grow beyond the current funding structure in place through to July 2011.
At this stage the Gathering’s programme is filling fast with sessions being delivered by:
Communications Coordinator with NPA talking about good news stories and how they can be used for best effect.
Auckland School of Population and Health researchers introducing the second phase of their Way2Go programme evaluation.
SportAssist will present a session on Volunteer Management.
Get Cooking the evening meal will be an opportunity for Charlie Ainscough and Richard Butler to share their Knowledge of the programme (with the help and participation of everyone else).
While I realize that we are all busy doing what we do this is a very important gathering and it is essential that all Hub Coordinators plan to be present. We are wanting to make it a fun, comfortable and above all else a learning opportunity for everyone. Please think about how I can assist you with cover for the time you are away from your hubs.
Way2Go Hubs
Due to the size of the Nelson/ Tasman region, local Way2Go Hubs have been established to meet local community physical activity needs. “Think regionally – act locally” - making the active choice the easy choice.
These Hubs are based at:
• Golden Bay: Golden Bay Community Workers
• Motueka: Motueka Recreation Centre
• Richmond: Tasman Recreational Resource Centre
• Moutere: Moutere Hills Community Centre
• Victory: Victory Community Centre, Nelson
• Nelson: The New Hub (Youth Centre), Nelson
• Murchison: Community Resource centre
• South East Stoke: House44
• Tahunanui: Tahunanui Community Centre
Each Way2Go Hub has a Way2Go Coordinator that works between 5-15 hours per week. Hubs respond to community need ensuring the same emphasis is put on rural and isolated communities, as it is in urban communities.
To find out more about each Way2Go Hub click on the 'What's On' section or if you wish to contact a Way2Go Hub click on 'Contacts'.
