Rekindling an old friendship and making lots of new ones has been the
added bonus of exercising for Annette Boyd. Annette was too shy to go to any
classes on her own, plus she was afraid of making a fool of herself, but since
her friend invited her to a Sit and Be Fit class at the Victory Community
Centre, she hasn't looked back.
"I am a diabetic, and I have no discs in my back, and some days I felt pretty
down," Annette says. "But now I'm happy to go to the class on my own, I've lost
7kgs, I have more energy, I'm more confident - more everything."
Annette has lived in Victory for 40 years, and says what makes the
classes work for her is the handy location at the community centre, the low
cost and the great coach.
Victory Way2Go
coordinator, Gareth Cashin says Annette is a great example of a local person
accessing physical activity and building up friendships within the group.
"Members of
the group stay at the centre after the class, have a chat and a cup of tea - it's
just fantastic!"
